Our Story
Black Stone Sharps began at a workbench, not in a boardroom. Our founder spent years at the forge and the grinding wheel, and grew tired of sharpening gear that promised a mirror edge and delivered a rounded one. Stones that dished in a month. Strops that cracked. Guides that wandered off the bevel the moment you leaned into them. So we started making — and sourcing — the tools we actually wanted on our own bench.
Today Black Stone Sharps, operated by Black Stone Trading Partners LLC, supplies whetstones, diamond plates, leather strops, honing guides and complete sharpening systems to blacksmiths, bladesmiths, woodworkers, chefs and anyone who refuses to work with a dull edge. Every product in our catalogue earns its place the hard way: we use it, we abuse it, and if it does not hold up on our bench it does not go on our shelf.
We are a small, maker-run company. We believe a good edge is a craft skill and that the right tool makes that craft accessible to anyone willing to learn. That is why we pair every tool with plain guidance on how to use it, and why our systems are built to give a repeatable, teachable angle rather than a lucky one.
We ship from the United States, we answer our own email, and we stand behind everything we sell. When you buy from Black Stone Sharps, you are buying from people who sharpen every day and who want your edges to outlast ours.
Thank you for supporting a maker-run shop. Now go put an edge on something.
What we make and source
Our catalogue spans the full sharpening bench: Japanese and synthetic water stones, oil stones, monocrystalline diamond plates and flattening plates, full-grain leather strops and honing compounds, precision angle guides and honing jigs, and complete guided sharpening systems and presentation kits. We choose each item for how it performs over years of real use, not for how cheaply it can be made. When we put the Black Stone Sharps mark on a tool, it means we would keep it on our own bench.
How we work
We keep the line small and coherent on purpose. Rather than stock a hundred near-identical stones, we carry a considered range that covers every stage from heavy repair to a final mirror polish, and we explain plainly where each tool fits. Every order is packed by hand and inspected before it ships. If you are not sure which grit, guide or system is right for your steel and your skill level, email us before you buy — we would rather point you to the right tool than sell you the wrong one.
Our promise
Fair prices, honest descriptions, fast dispatch from the United States, and a real person on the other end of the email. That is the whole business. We are grateful for every maker, cook and craftsperson who chooses to put an edge on their work with our tools.
